Wednesday, May 27, 2026, 21:00
Volos Municipal Theatre “Vangelis Papathanassiou”
The BALLET of Serbian National Theatre, with 35 dancers on stage, presents one of the most spectacular masterpieces of the classical ballet repertoire, “Don Quixote”.
A performance full of flawless technique, impressive costumes, strong theatricality and humor.
The ballet Don Quixote, with music by Ludwig Minkus, was first presented in 1869 by the great choreographer Marius Petipa.
Although inspired by the famous novel of Miguel de Cervantes, the choreographic version focuses on the stormy love between the beautiful Kitri and the poor barber Basilio, while the characters of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza give the story its theatrical tone.
This two-act ballet is a feast of Spanish temperament and color, with spectacular scenes, elegant variations and a virtuosic Grand Pas de Deux that highlights the high technical level of the soloists.
Toreadors, Gypsies, Mercedes, Gamache and Kitri’s friends fill the stage with rhythm, passion and energy.
The Ballet of the Serbian National Theatre was founded in 1950.
Its first choreographer and teacher was the Russian Marina Olenjina, trained in the tradition of the classical ballet of Saint Petersburg.
The company has a rich repertoire and has performed in many countries, including Italy, Romania, Egypt, Belgium, the Netherlands and Mexico.
Since 2024, the Artistic Director is Aja Jung, an internationally acclaimed dancer and founder of the Belgrade Dance Festival, one of the most important dance festivals in Europe.
A unique performance full of humor, passion and dazzling technique.
